Stainless Steel 409 Channel Profile Stainless steel 409 is a ferritic stainless steel profile and is highly appreciated due to cost-effectiveness, oxidation resistance and minor corrosion resistivity. Made in C-shape or U-shape, this is structural innovative stainless steel tube channel used in automotive exhaust structures, construction frames and fabrications. Stainless Steel 409 is intended mainly in the places where demands on heat and corrosion resistance are provided, but the air of exceptionally demanding conditions is not a factor. As a material that can find a balance between performance and cost, it is frequently used in the industries where the balance between these two aspects has to be made.

Stainless Steel 409 Channel comes in the form of a hot rolled or cold formed stainless steel structural shape, which is manufactured in Grade 409 stainless steel and commonly abbreviated as (UNS S40900). It is also a ferritic alloy and has 11-13 chromium with minimum amounts of some other elements such as titanium which is added to improve weld ability and resistance of oxidation.
Storage of utility steel 409, unlike austenitic stainless steels (such as 304 or 316), has lower amounts of nickel, as well as is regarded as a utility-grade stainless steel, suitable circumstances where resistance to corrosion is much less of a concern than thermal effectiveness and expenditure limitation. Titanium stabilization in 409 prevents precipitation of carbides in the grain boundaries so that it easily weld able and corrosion-resistant to some extent.
Stainless Steel 409 Channel is a low-cost, fire- resistant structural product suitable in automotive, construction and industrial industries. Although it is not as stable to corrosion as stainless steel of higher grades, its cost and thermal stability combined with ease of fabrication, makes it a leading stainless steel in low-cost stressful heat applications.
